Public opinion, legislation, targets and regulation now demand industry considers its effects on the environment.
Landfill tax is currently at £40 tonne this will increase by another £8 and will continue to increase annually until at least 2013. With over 15 million tonnes of food waste being produced each year from catering and food manufacturing, there is a growing need for alternative means of disposing of this waste.
We are local businesses endeavouring to embrace the best available technology for the benefit of the local community for sustainable living.
The UK has no energy security.
AD provides a local affordable secure energy source independant of global economic energy fluctuations and availibility, where revenue is kept in the local economy rather than going to oil rich countries and multinationals.
A local solution to waste management reduces the impact of long haul transportation to increasingly distant locations as landfill sites become scarce. Having a local landbase to utilize the digestate, which is a by product of the AD process, further reduces the need for additional transportation.
In Germany over 80,000 people are employed in AD and in Sweden and Switzerland government vehicles and buses run on biogas.
This is a tried and tested technology, other European countries have been utilizing AD for many years. In these countries energy produced by AD plants is used to power and heat local homes. We believe a network of small projects such as ours can make a big difference to local energy security.

There is a huge gap between demand and planned energy creation meaning increasing prices. In the UK we rely on importing energy from other countries meaning we compete on the global market, are impacted by global events and are transferring capital to other countries.
Peak (cheap) oil is imminent. Cheap costs for fossil fuels have been keeping energy prices down, however global energy markets are increasingly volatile. Generating electricity independant of the price of oil means we can take control of our energy supply.

Biogas can be converted into different energy types for different applications . The ability to store and deliver energy at a given time gives biogas a considerable advantage over other renewable energy sources.
In the ‘food versus fuel debate’ many commentators lose sight of the potential for agricultural systems such as ours to become energy independent - reducing emissions and maintaining food production

AD wastes nothing: the biogas is converted into energy and the remaning digestate utilised as a fertiliser to improve the yield of future food and energy crops.
